Melbourne Music Week: 16-24 November 2012

For the exception of some poor Melbourne University students, most of you – school leavers and uni students – will have finished exams and probably looking for some great ways to kick-start the summer holidays.

Featuring over 200 local and overseas artists, Melbourne Music Week still has only a few days remaining and is a great way to catch some great live music from bands such as Collarbones, Twerps and King Gizard and the Lizard Wizard.

Not only is good music on the table, but it’s also at an economical price, with a number of shows and events at the best price of all, free.

You can check out the full program here.

Keep a heads up for Thursday’s night Live Music Safari, which is offering hours of entertainment across ten venues including The Toff in Town, Cherry Bar and 1000 £ Bend, again all for free.

One of my favourite bands involved is an outfit named No Zu. Backed by a tight rhythm section, energetic front man Nicolaas Oogjes sings, dances and trumpets the night away in his sweaty form of “heat beat”, also known as fun tropical music you can dance to. You can check out their song Emotion here.

Like many up and coming bands, the studio version of No Zu’s stuff hardly compares to the live experience, so the only way you’ll truly understand the hype is if you go see them yourself! You can catch them at the Where?House this Tuesday along with Oliver Tank, Mitzi and Lost Animal for only $15.
