Bachelor of Applied Science (Adventure Ecotourism)

This is the ideal degree for lovers of the outdoors, with two important specialisations. The first is in Outdoor Recreation, where students will learn leadership and conservation as well as receiving training in rock climbing, bushwalking and other ecotourism activities.

18 core subjects (144 credit points) + 6 minor subjects (48 credit points) = 192 credit points





This practical training is offered by Wodonga TAFE in conjunction with studies at CSU. Employment opportunities following this specialisation include work as adventure tour guides, school camp coordinators, and coordinators of outdoor education.
The second specialisation is Planning and Policy, where students will learn about the wider issues surrounding ecotourism, such as management, ecology and cultural issues. Graduates of this specialisation move into leadership roles in areas such as tourism and heritage conservation. This degree is recognised by employers in the adventure ecotourism field, so graduates can expect to find a range of opportunities in the workplace.
Core Units: Financial Planning for Business; Principles of Ecology; Conservation Biology; Workplace Preparation; Natural Resource Management; Environmental Management – Administration and Practice; Earth System Processes; Marketing and Society; An Introduction to the Outdoor Recreation and Adventure Ecotourism; Social Psychology of Risk in Outdoor Recreation; Interpretive Planning; Cultural Resource Management; Outdoor Recreation Design; Leadership and Communication; Principles of Ecotourism; Interpretive Guiding Management in Ecotourism; Advanced Principles of Ecotourism; International Practical Experience.
