Introduction:
Founded in 1909, the University of Queensland is the oldest university in the state. Widely recognised for the large sandstone buildings encompassing the Great Court, and the 11 residential colleges located on campus, this Group of Eight (Go8) university is iconic within Australia.

The University of Queensland is home to over 45,000 students, with almost 200,000 alumni and 11,000 international students. The University of Queensland also boasts over 150 sporting, religious, cultural, political and leisure clubs and societies, with over 28,000 students partaking as active members. Additionally, this university houses nearly 7500 members of academic staff and 15 libraries containing over 2 million volumes. It then comes as no surprise that the University of Queensland was ranked fourth within Australia and fourty-eigth in the QS World University Rankings in 2011 – and is placed in the top one percent of international universities in the current edition of the International Handbook of Universities.

With 6 distinct faculties, 370 degree programmes and 5600 unique subjects the University of Queensland provides students with a wealth of choice regarding their education. The top three programs by enrolment are Arts, Doctor of Philosophy and Engineering, reflecting the strong research base found within this university. However, this university also offers high quality education and research in the scientific, business, commercial, psychological, health science and sporting fields – proving that there really is something for everyone at the University of Queensland.
