Bachelor of Engineering Technology @ UTAS

Bachelor of Engineering Technology

The Bachelor of Engineering Technology is a degree aiming to allow those with advanced qualifications from TAFE or similar to further develop and professionalise their skills and knowledge level in a tertiary environment. Students elect to focus on one of three streams, Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering. It is not intended for year 12 leavers.

Degree Length

3 years full-time

Degree Structure

8 introductory + 8 intermediate + 8 advanced = 24 units

Hobart campus

The first year is held in common to all three streams, and provides a foundation in the physical sciences, mathematics and computer skills required for success at a higher level. Many of the units of this degree are the same as those of a Bachelor of Engineering, but this degree tends to focus more on the design aspects of the degree, reflecting the para-professional nature of the degree. Students may articulate into a Bachelor of Engineering to become true professional engineers in their field of specialisation.

Careers are available in a wide number of areas, including consulting firms, construction or at any level of government.

Core units: Computer Aided Design and Communication, Engineering Statics, Chemistry of Materials, Calculus and Applications 1A and 1B, Engineering Dynamics, Engineering Circuit Theory and Programming, and Problem Solving.
